B." on front free endpaper; 255 pp., a few plates; original red cloth lightly soiled, age speckling on endpapers, scattered light age spotting in text, overall very good; a gathering of material, some of it previously published, from 1900 to 1908 but often touching on earlier campaigns and wars in India and Afghanistan; Field Marshal Brownlow is very concerned that there are not enough British troops to guarantee the safety of the region, the Sepoys may be good fighters but they are still mercenaries whose motivation is not patriotism and soon anyone with ten rupees can be armed with a .303 rifle; all this leads him to support Compulsory Military Training for Great Britain.
