Estleman, Loren D. /
typescript; quarto, [2], 300 leaves, the author's name, address, and telephone number with that of the Ray Peeker Literary Agency underneath at upper inside corner and "About 75,000 words" at outside upper corner, there are no corrections and appears to be a professionally typed ribbon copy; small stain at one tip of early leaves, last two leaves have a large rectangle of light brown staining and last leaf also has some small holing with no letters hit, never bound and overall very good; part of the Amos Walker series and considered one of his best crime novels (although there seem to be some strong differences of opinion on exactly what "downriver" means to people from Detroit); the book was published by Houghton Mifflin in 1988 with a copyright date of 1987. Egan, Maurice Francis. / NY: William H. Sadlier, 1888
first edition but much previously published in Catholic World; small octavo, x, 178 pp.; original green cloth soiled and bowed with fore edges black, general age toning, not fragile but reading copy; the comments are not entirely negative but the author does feel "that thoughtless and indiscriminate novel-reading is to the soul what opium is to all the faculties"; many of the books under scrutiny are now infrequently read but some still well known authors are included e.g. H. Rider Haggard's "Dawn" cannot be considered dangerous because "Mr. Haggard lacks even the art of making immorality enticing.",. Volumes Included: 1

Andreae Dugonicii. Argonauticorum sive de vellere aureo libri XXIV.

Dugonics Andras (1740-1818) / Posonii et Cassoviae: Apud Ioannem Michaelem Landerer, 1778
first edition; [viii], 754, [3] (errata) pp., frontis.; later cloth faded with hinges broken (could be easily replaced), what appears to be the original unprinted paper sides bound in, top edge stained red and the others untrimmed, general light age toning but paper not fragile and block well sewn; sometimes described as a didactic novel but the author's multifaceted career as a mathematician, priest, Latinist, professor of philosophy, etc. suggests a more profound content, also curious is the allegorical frontispiece that seems to have an alchemical flavor and the fact that it is written in Latin when almost all of his other work is in Hungarian. Volumes Included: 1
