The Week. A Journal of Fundamental Democracy (and National, State and City Gossip). Volumes 8 through 15 (September 30, 1913-March 23, 1918); Volume 17 (September 28, 1918-March 22, 1919); Volume 19 (September 26, 1918-March 20, 1920)

Philbrick, C. C;., ed. / Columbus: C. C. Philbrick, 1913
these ten volumes only; first editions, folio (leaves 36.5 cm. tall x 26.5 cm.), weekly publication, each issue 16 pages and 26 issues to a volume, illustrations in text; now in ten matching cloth bindings with leather spines and corners very rubbed, one spine covering almost gone, and many sides detached, the blocks sound and well sewn, some issues in the last two volumes browned, a few leaves have short tears with no loss, overall good+; not as political as the title might suggest but there are constant attacks on Ohio governor James M Cox (Squeal from the Swill Trough; Taxes, Cooties and Cox; many others); First World War coverage, regular full page women's fashion reports, reprints of short fiction by Sax Rohmer, H. G. Wells, Zane Gray (baseball stories), Arthur B. Reeve, et al., sports, humor, genealogy, Washington news, etc etc., relatively little about Columbus, Ohio (although there is concern about rampant Socialism at the Ohio State University). Report of the Select Committee to Investigate Charges of Bribery in Connection with the Election of Hon. Henry B. Payne, as United States Senator, by the Sixty-Sixth General Assembly of Ohio ...

Cowgill, Thomas A., chairman. / Columbus: 1886
first edition; 29 pp.; library hand stamps and markings, original paper sides present but chipped and now entirely disbound, reading copy; the charges were politically motivated but apparently not entirely baseless; proof of Payne's personal involvement was not clear and the United States Senate was not interested in setting a precedent of state legislators interfering in the business of their chamber so Payne finished his term. Columbus This Week. Volume 8, Numbers 1 through 26. (March-September 1929)

Humphreys, Ray W., ed. / Columbus: Heer Advertising Agency 1929
Volume 8 only, issues are usually 16 or 34 pages, includes special numbers for the State Fair and the Gateway Jubilee; all in one later cloth binding with all original paper sides retained, overall very good; the restaurants sound interesting (one serves Jewish and Hungarian food and another serves "real" Jewish food cooked Hungarian style) but the Chamber of Commerce will have to come up with something more exciting than an exhibition of portraits of Ohio State Geologists if they want the convention business they crave.
